Getting Ready for Park Play
The sun shines through Rachel’s window. She wakes up and stretches her arms. Today is Saturday. Today feels special! Rachel looks out and sees green grass and bright flowers in her backyard.
Rachel hurries to get ready. She puts on her shorts and her green shirt. Her brown hair goes into a neat ponytail. She smiles and thinks about fun in the park.
“Jake, are you ready?” Rachel calls. Jake, her fluffy tan Cockapoo, jumps up and wags his tail. His floppy ears bounce as he runs to Rachel. She giggles and rubs his soft fur.
“Sara will be here soon,” Rachel says. Just then, the doorbell rings. Rachel opens the door and sees Sara, her best friend, standing outside. Sara wears pink overalls and has two shiny braids. She smiles big and waves.
“Good morning, Rachel!” Sara says. “I brought my favorite jump rope.”
“Let’s play in the park!” Rachel cheers. Sara nods. Jake barks softly, ready to run and play.
Rachel’s dad peeks into the hallway. He wears his green cap and gives a friendly smile. “Have fun, girls! I’ll be right here if you need me.”
The friends step outside. The air feels warm and fresh. Birds sing. Rachel, Sara, and Jake walk together toward the backyard gate. Rachel feels happy and a little excited. What new fun will they find today?
